⛺ Tradition & Remembrance: The 160th Winnebago Homecoming & MMIR Powwow
As July draws to a close, a powerful gathering of resilience, history, and healing takes place in Winnebago, Nebraska. Scheduled from July 23rd to July 26th, 2026, the Winnebago Homecoming Powwow is one of the oldest continuous celebrations in North America.
This year, as we mark the monumental 160th annual gathering, the arena also stands as a solemn space of remembrance and advocacy for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) movement. It is a profound weekend dedicated to bringing awareness, seeking justice, and offering spiritual healing to affected families. 🌍
🦅 Honoring the Legacy of Chief Little Priest
The roots of this historic powwow date back to 1866, when it was first held to welcome home and honor the warriors of Company A, Omaha Scouts, who bravely served in the U.S. military.
Today, it remains a proud homecoming for all Native veterans. In front of thousands of attendees, the powwow beautifully blends military honors with deeply rooted ancestral traditions, recognizing the sacrifices made by generations of Indigenous warriors. 🎖️
❤️ Dancing in Red for Our Missing Relatives
Intertwined with the joyful celebration of returning warriors is the urgent, heartbreaking call for justice and remembrance.
Throughout the weekend, the dance arena becomes a sea of red—the official color of the MMIR movement. Special honoring dances and "Red Dress" specials are held to raise vital awareness for the thousands of Indigenous women, men, and children who face disproportionate rates of violence across the continent. These moments ensure that:
-
Voices are heard and justice is demanded 🗣️
-
Families are supported through community solidarity 🤝
-
The missing are never forgotten ❤️

🥁 A Powerful Cycle of Healing and Community
At the center of it all, the rhythmic beat of the drum offers profound spiritual medicine for grieving families.
Healing dances, particularly the traditional Jingle Dress dance, are performed by hundreds of dancers. With every rhythmic step and the chiming of metal cones, these dancers carry the heartfelt prayers of their communities, sending healing energy to those who need it most and weaving the stories of the missing into the enduring heartbeat of the nation. ✨
As we stand in solidarity with the Winnebago community and the MMIR movement, we invite you to reflect on this powerful testament to cultural survival and healing. Explore our latest collection, thoughtfully created to honor the enduring strength, deep compassion, and unbreakable spirit of Indigenous families and warriors today! 🛍️
